New Books
From Box Tops to Bookshelves

Recently, the Pine Glen PTO presented the LTC with a lovely gift– the money raised by the Pine Glen students who cut, collected, and submitted hundreds of Box Tops for Education.
I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it . . . I wanted to ” give it back” to the students by purchasing books for the library that the students have put on the Wish List. In the library catalog system, Destiny Quest allows a student to submit an official request for a book he/she really wants to read but is not already in the collection. Destiny Quest keeps track of these requests and easily compiles a handy list of titles, or, Wish List.
Below is a quick video highlighting the many new library books purchased with the Box Tops funds from the Wish List. Already, students have noticed the new books on the cart and eagerly asked to check them out. I love seeing their excitement over the new books and I especially love watching the students understand that the library belongs to them and their voices are important.
Thank you PTO, again, for your fantastic support of the Library & Technology Center–where everyone benefits!
Introducing the New Birthday Book Club Members
0I am pleased to announce to you the new Birthday Book Club Members. Thanks to the generous support of Pine Glen families, the Pine Glen LTC has raised over $700, but more importantly, these Pine Glen students have had the chance to have a brand new library book dedicated in their honor. And as you can clearly see, these members love their new library books. If you have signed your child up for the Birthday Book Club, but you don’t see their photo here, fear not! It does take time to meet with every single student but I will invite them to the library soon to help them pick out that “just right” book.

Well, not exactly. Rick Riordan’s new book goes on sale on October 4, 2011 to be precise. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t get excited about book two in the Heroes of Olympus series!

In fact, Olympian Week starts on Tuesday where Rick Riordan will tour the country stopping in seven different locations to promote The Son of Neptune and to sign books.
We are thrilled to announce that one of the seven “cabins” where Rick will visit is right here in Burlington, MA at the Barnes & Noble at 7:00.
So, pre-order your book, get your ticket, meet Rick Riordan, and get your book signed. Let the toga party begin!
