It’s only been the first few weeks of classes in the LTC and already there have been lots of exciting things going on. Kindergarteners through third graders celebrated Library Love* where we read our favorite stories about the library and reviewed the rules, procedures, and routines of the LTC.

*Inspiration for this idea comes from Sarah Ducharme, school librarian in Budapest, Hungary, who writes at the Try Curiosity blog and is always offering great ideas.

Fourth and fifth graders began ipad orientation classes to get ready for a year’s worth of learning with their own ipads.

We started with an iPad Scavenger Hunt to learn how to use the buttons and functions on the ipad. Then, we had a class on digital etiquette using the Socrative app to survey student’s previous knowledge followed by watching the BrainPop video Digital Etiquette using the BrainPop app. We used these apps not only to teach the lesson but also to introduce how the apps work and to setup logins so that the students would be ready to use them with their classroom teachers all year long.
